About the Author

Allan Willis was born in 1966 and lives in Buckinghamshire, England.
What qualifies someone to write a book on balance?
For me, it is the combination of studying the subject and additionally, and perhaps more importantly, through practical life experience.
On a practical level experiencing a lack of balance, or imbalance, is just as important to the learning process, if not more important, than experiencing balance.
It is like sailing a boat, you do not learn how to sail on a calm sea, it is only when a storm happens that you really learn how to sail.
My life experience has been extreme and this has given me a passion for balance. My personal quest to find balance has been all consuming and I have read literally hundreds of books along the way. Looking for answers relating to balance has been driven as much by necessity as anything else.
And finally my 25 year journey has culminated in a simple book about balance that will help people. The journey I have taken has value because I am able to give something back. Importantly I can help others avoid the pain that a lack of balance inevitably results in.
I realised that the principles of balance that have taken me so long to discover apply to everyone, we are all simply reinventing the wheel.
I set out to create the most comprehensive and yet simple to understand guide to balance that answers the questions ‘ What is balance?’ and ‘How to apply balance to your life?’. It was important to me that the book was very visual and this is why Achieving Balance contains over 60 artist’s illustrations.
Over the years I have been a moneybroker in the city of London, an entrepreneur, a knowledge broker and latterly a mentor to entrepreneurs, and those seeking to fine tune their ‘perceptive awareness’.
I have found that ‘giving back’ is just as important as ‘taking out’.

This author reminds me of myself - honestly finding inspirations from other books and music. Each person takes insights from the things that hit home at the moment, maybe not agreeing with every point, but finding pointers that apply to where they are at the moment. Having said that, I really liked the first few chapters of this book the most, for me personally, and that made it a worthwhile and inspiring read. Thanks Mr. Willis for your effort to help others. I liked the artwork too, nice additions.

Achieving Balance A simple book that will change your life edition by Allan Willis SelfHelp eBooks Reviews

Good stuff except for the parts about The Law of Attraction, which I have said before is not something I have any faith in directly. To me that detracts
Achieving balance is concise and to the point. It contains many ideas and concepts relating to balance and these are presented in an accessible way.
By the time I had finished the book I felt different to when I had started it, but I couldn't quite put my finger on why! (But it was a positive feeling)
There is a recommended reading list at the end of the book which is useful and a piece about the author which is probably worth reading before you start the book.
I have read a few self help and personal development books over the years but Achieving Balance sits head and shoulders above them, in my opinion, because it feels like
the author is talking to you personally and the content is of a very high quality. Gaining the knowledge about balance is one thing, applying it is another, but the book gives you many pointers on how to practically apply balance to your life. I think it is the sort of book that you can refer to over the years to make sure you are still on track. To summarise, this book will save you many years of doing the wrong things, it is very well written and the illustrations make it a pleasure to read. I would definitely buy a copy and read it! I found it to be tremendously empowering.
I have read several self help and personal transformation books and found them to be often repetitive, circulating a few ideas over many pages. This book covers 60 concepts or so (index at the front) with an illustration and a simple explanation. Don't be fooled, although some concepts appear simple they are actually quite profound.I liked the fact that I was the main character in the book and not an author talking about himself. The book gave me several reference points which helped me gauge how balanced I am and what needs to be done to become more balanced (I did not score too well). The back cover says that Achieving Balance will give you a roadmap to align your self image with who you are. I have had problems with this over the years (low self esteem) and the book has helped me. The author is frank and honest about his personal challenges with balance (bio at the back of the book) and it is obvious the book comes from painful experience rather than just from a theory book. At the end of the book it says that we are all a work in progress, which I certainly am, but I think if I slip back into old ways (which I tend to do in stressful situations) this will help me get back. A very good book, worth reading, but breaking the bad habits is a tough road.(but at least I now have a better idea of what they are and what I need to do and something to refer back to)
So far very good indeed! I still have a few pages to go but I think I won't change my opinion.
